Quote Meme from [info]lordjubatus

2008.02.26 | 22:40
location: Radio Shack
mood: Obsolete
music: "I Wish I Were an Oscar Mayer Wiener"

1. Pick 10 of your favorite movies [TV shows]
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie [TV show].
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.

I've altered this as little as possible to make it viable; it also includes shows that I used to like, to fill out the numbers. (I wanted quotes that I remembered, so that narrowed the list quite a bit.) I also randomized the order by a method that's a tribute to one of the shows. Also, one was from an episode that I just saw the other day.

1. "Pathetic human race. Arranging their knowledge by category just made it easier to absorb. Dewey, you fool! Your decimal system has played right into my hands! Ha ha ha ha!" blitzcon )

2. "I've spent my whole life stickin' it to the man. If I do this, I'll be the man. I don't think I can be the man." phoenix_talon )

3. "IT'S ALIVE, ALIVE! I've always wanted to say that." phoenix_talon )

4. "Don't touch that dial. And, if your TV has a dial, go buy a new one."

5. "What's the matter? Teacher's pet got cold feet? Anytime, pretty boy!"

6. "This oven door has run off with your wife, so you decide to gear-up and get even."

7. "Urge to kill... fading... fading... fading - rising! Fading... fading... gone." phoenix_talon )

8. "I let him think for a while 'cause I knew he had the answer. I knew it was a good answer, and he was going to tell it to me. 'Cause when you ask a question, you expect an answer. That's the way it works... question, answer, answer, question. If he gave the answer, I'd have to come up with the question. That would be Jeopardy[!]. That's wrong."

9. "Now calm down son, listen to daddy. It's just a bad dream. I promise you, Senator Thurmond is not in your closet. That's a good boy. Yes, okay you go back to bed now."

10. "There are over 13,000 cabs in New York City, but there is only one that pays you." Ms. mizuno_youko )

Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, Merrily

2008.02.25 | 09:00
location: The Anduin
mood: Singular
music: "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"

I looked at cast roll for the new Lord of the Rings movies. For some reason, it was separated in two sections: one for characters who were played by only one actor each, and one for those who were played by more than one each. The first section had only five characters listed: the Nine Walkers, minus the four hobbits.

Edit (2007.02.26): Also, Figwit was on the second list.

This is of course not consistent with the waking world, as almost everyone, even Sméagol, was played by a single actor, excepting stunt and size doubles. The only exceptions that come to mind are the Nazgûl, who were voiced by Andy Serkis.

On the topic of movies, I've just run across another meme, which is also a quiz. Sadly, I hardly watch movies, and the few that I've bothered to rewatch tend to be the geek "bibles," so any quotes from them would be easily identified, so I don't know whether I can make it have a point.

Edit (2008.06.20): I've taken a stab.

Presidential Candidate Meme from Mother ([previously] [info]arifyn's Mother)

2007.12.04 | 23:32
location: Indiana, 2008.05.06
mood: Knowing
music: "Dueling Banjos" (a misnomer)

No surprises here )

As noted before, I don't have a good position on issues that aren't easily comprehensible, which resulted in picking middle-ground or arbitrary answers and minimum importance on the first nine and maximum importance on the last two.

Meanwhile, I've been hearing recently about Ms. Clinton's problem dubbed the "dynasty" issue. I may talk about her later.

Tetragrammaton (?) Meme from Ms. [info]mizuno_youko

2007.10.17 | 22:55
location: The cardinal directions
mood: Square
music: Playlist (226 items, need to trim out numerous duplicates)

Alphabetized to avoid having to rate them even more precisely

4 Movies You Can Always Watch:
1. STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE
2. STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE
3. STAR WARS EPISODE V: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
4. STAR WARS EPISODE VI: RETURN OF THE JEDI
I rarely rewatch movies (even the ones I watch in the first place) anymore. There's just too much else to see. However, I've listed a few classics that I wouldn't mind watching again, since I'm interested in the setting. I guess I picked EPISODE I as my fourth because it has Ms. Portman in it, and she's not making out with Hayden Christensen. Capt. Tarpals is cool too, for all the five minutes of screen time he gets. UTENA is probably complicated enough to be worth watching again, as well.

4 Bands/Singers You Can't Get Enough of:
None. Even if you take it figuratively, there aren't any of either about which I care. My favorite composer is Uematsu Nobuo, but I don't care much about him, either.

4 Books You Can Read Over and Over:
1. CODEX: DAEMONHUNTERS
2. CODEX: WITCH HUNTERS
3. INQUISITOR ANNUAL 2004: vol. 2 The EXTERMINATUS Files
4. INQUISITOR: THE BATTLE FOR THE EMPEROR'S SOUL
As you may remember, I no longer have the patience to read large blocks of prose, and I get tired of reading the same story comics repeatedly. (Even most volumes of HAYATE CROSS BLADE and Yuri Shimai I've only read about a half-dozen times.) Most of the stuff I reread is reference material, for which I don't have many big ones at the moment, now that I'm not bothering with D&D anymore.

4 Towns You've Lived In:
1. Northfield, MN
2. Norwich, Norfolk
3. Redwood City, CA
4. West Lafayette, IN
I'm counting everywhere I've stayed on a regular basis (including sabbatical and school, but not other trips).

4 Shows You're Watching:
1. BLUE DROP: Tenshi-tachi no Gikyoku
2. JEOPARDY!
3. Minami-ke
4. MYTHBUSTERS
I'm far too lazy to catch TV shows consistently, and I don't give a damn about enough shows to bother getting TiVo. I've got a couple of new ones due to this meme's occurrence at the beginning of a season.

4 Shows You Like to Watch (not necessarily current):
1. CA$H CAB
2. THE COLBERT REPORT
3. THE DAILYSHOW WITH JON STEWART
4. MAIL CALL
Since this is in the present tense, I'm listing ones that I would continue to watch, not ones that I've already seen in full and thus probably will never watch again. I've also omitted the ones from the previous item, since you already know those. The two fake news shows are about the only way I'm willing to spend time actually using my eyes to find out about news. Too bad I'm too lazy to watch them when my brother isn't here. UTENA might fit into this category, too (and I still haven't seen a couple of the filler episodes).

4 Websites You Visit Daily:
1. Allies
2. The Animal Rescue Site, etc.
3. Ecology Fund
4. PRIVATEER PRESS
Yes, I still click on all these donations for causes about which I don't give a damn, as long as they're free. The other two I only visit regularly because they don't have RSS feeds.

4 Favorite Foods:
1. Cheesecake (on principle)
2. Hawaiian bread
3. Milk chocolate
4. Rainbow sherbet
I don't have much interest in food now that I'm restricting myself so much, so these are pretty arbitrary choices. There are plenty of foods that I would enjoy eating more, but I don't count them because I don't eat them.

4 Places You'd Like to Be Now:
1. Darfur, the Sudan
2. Madison, WI
3. Nottingham, Notts
4. Tucson, AZ
I really hate Japan. Even back when I was willing to kill and eat innocents for my own enjoyment, I still had to put up with people smoking everywhere and having to be polite to men. I may post about the Darfur part later. (This seems an odd way to release that information, but whatever.)

Very generic. There's no mention of games played, or miniatures converted, or anything interesting like that.

Rainbow of Emotions Meme from [info]phoenix_talon

2006.05.14 | 21:05
location: Over the ocean and through the woods, at Grandmother's house
mood: Colorful

. . . to whose post I still can't reply. It also appears to be abridged, judging by the numbering.

RED; anger:

1. Are you currently mad at someone?: Not actively.
2. Which of your friends has the worst temper?: [info]lordjubatus, I suppose.
3. Have you ever thrown something at anyone?: Many times.
5. When you're mad do you prefer to stare angrily or yell and scream?: The latter is much more entertaining.

ORANGE; excitement:

1. Has anyone ever thrown you a surprise party?: No. That should fall into the red category in my case.
2. Are you easily excited?: Yes.
4. Which of your friends is most excitable?: Since I never really got to know Ms. [info]gardenprophet or [info]brewergnome, I suppose it would be Ms. [info]caelia, perhaps?
5. If you won a million dollars what would be your first thought?: "Holy cow, I won a million dollars."
6. If you could have anything right now what would it be?: A job would be nice.

YELLOW; self discovery:

1. Name?: Wong Wei-Gwang (can't type the characters at the moment), if Mother's memory serves. Not my legal name, but I'm sure as hell not typing that here. I have gone by far too many aliases to list.
2. Where were you born?: Some hospital in Redwood City, CA
3. What's your main goal in life?: Immediate self-gratification
4. Do you want to have children?: Shadows forbid. I've talked enough about that before.
5. How do you want to die?: I don't. If that's not possible, I'd like to give my life in the service of a lady.

GREEN; opinions:

1. Sex before marriage?: If the lady(ies) like(s). If there are no ladies allowed, then what the hell difference does it make, as long as they stay away from me?
2. Gay Marriage?: Why the hell not? As far as I've seen, the "con" crowd has yet to come up with a single valid reason.
3. Lowering the drinking age?: Personally, I am against deliberately poisoning one's own brain. One would think it's the individual's prerogative, but when you choose to do so, you sure as hell ought to be able to take responsibility for any actions you take thereafter. Obviously, that's not a good enough solution. Unfortunately, human society finds self-poisoning important enough that it becomes a necessary evil (as the Prohibition era proves). I can't for the life of me think of a solution.
4. Capital Punishment?: The fact is, there are many male humans who deserve a fate far worse than death. Unfortunately, this is a very difficult case to make in any individual instance. Again, I don't know what to do about it.
5. Abortion: The hell should I know? This is a far more complex issue than I can fathom. It's really a matter of how much it takes for an embryo or fetus to qualify as a living, feeling creature—similar to the troubles I find in my own life, incidentally. (I really should look up whether clams have central nervous systems or something.) As a sidenote, my opinion is of course that the problem of overpopulation is mostly due to human selfishness. But that's coming back to the topic of reproduction, so I'd better shut up now.
6. Recycling?: I could hardly care less about the environment, but the fact is that you should.

BLUE; dreams:

1. What was your latest dream?: How the hell should I remember?
2. What friend is in your dreams the most?: No one in particular
3. Have any of your dreams come true?: Not to my knowledge
4. Do you usually remember your dreams?: No.
5. What was the weirdest dream you've ever had?: How the hell should I remember?

PURPLE; love:

1. Straight, Gay, Bi?: Very, very straight, despite the effeminate appearance
2. Who is the best hugger that you know?: What constitutes a "good" hugger?
3. Do you believe in Love at first sight?: I have never been able to positively identify any sort of love in the first place, but I don't see why it wouldn't exist.

Post a list of up to 20 books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/etc. that you've had an obsessive fannish love of at some time in your life. Then have your friends list guess your favourite character from each item. It's nice to know that, as usual, "anime" is a separate form of media from movies and TV shows. Anyway, I don't know if I've been that obsessive about 20, but I've tried to list some of the big ones. (In the case of books and video games, I've listed series or subjects rather than individuals because I've never really cared about single books.) I'll add links when I can get my IME back.

I don't have any analogue to [info]phoenix_talon's last question, so I'll leave you with this thought:

Translation of the Day: [Something in Cantonese] > "I'm not a missionary. I'm the No. 1 man of Russian!"

Edit (2008.06.20): Why do I bother? The answers are posted.

Well, I love commenting on memes, but I can't really do this one because [info]phoenix_talon hasn't added me as a friend. He never answered any of my emails either. Come on, you're not allowed to resent our rivalry because your characters always won. . . .

1.) When showering, do you start the water and then get in or get in and start the water? The latter.

2.) Do you read the labels on your shampoo bottle? I don't own a shampoo bottle, but if I were to buy one, I might read the label.

3.) Do you moan in the shower like the people on the herbal essence commercial? No.

4.) What kind of shampoo and conditioner do you use? A combined Pert thing.

5.) Have you almost drowned in your bathtub? Not as far back as I remember.

6.) Have you ever brushed your teeth in the shower? Probably not.

7.) Body Wash or Soap? I don't care which. I use soap, personally.

8.) How old do you look? How should I know?

9.) How old do you act? 13 years. It is my mental age, after all.

10.) What's the last song you sang? Don't remember.

11.) Have you recently become a member of anything? Yes.

12.) What are your plans for the weekend? Other than D&D, nothing in particular. If you count Friday night, I'm going to be playing D&D Minis.

14.) Have you ever ridden a mechanical bull? Not to my memory.

16.) If you were on a pirate ship, what would you most likely be? That depends on a lot of factors, not the least of which being the gender of the captain. (Hey, I'm a fantasy nerd, all right? Who cares about historical accuracy?)

17.) Have you ever called anyone a slut? Not that I recall.

18.) Have you ever been called a slut? Not that I recall.

20.) Does playing the guitar make a girl/guy more attractive? Not to me. Ick.

21.) Do you live in a city with a good sports team? You're asking me?

22.) Have you ever finished off the popcorn? What else am I supposed to do? Leave it for later?

23.) How many people would come to your funeral? The term "people" technically refers to only humans. According to my auguries, humanity will be extinct by the time I die.

24). How many of them would come just to make sure you're dead? Unsurprisingly, none.

25). Do you have more enemies or more friends? Friends. Who the hell do you think would pay any attention to me unless I were some sort of ally?

26.) Have you ever sent an anonymous letter? Probably.

27.) Can you fix your own car? Anything's possible, but it's not broken anyway.

28.) Have you ever turned someone down when they asked you to go out with them? There are limits to what you can ask hypothetically, I'm afraid. And will you quit with the singular "they"?

29.) Are you smarter than your friends? Hello? Wisdom 3 here.

30.) What's your favourite kind of cheese? Nothing in particular.

31.) Have you ever been to jail? Yes, several times.

32.) Should you have? In a cosmic sense? I don't think it really makes much difference.

32.) Do you like the taste of beer? Hell no. I despise it because it's a stupid idea in the first place. If it tastes anything like it reeks, then I would hate it because it tastes bad too.

34.) Have you ever died or killed someone in a dream? The former, don't remember. The latter, many many times.

35.) Have you ever given to charity? Yes. Chump change, but yes.

36.) Would you kill a dog for $10000? That's very theoretical. I'd like to claim that I wouldn't based on just the information given here, but I probably would. I'd hardly be surprised if I killed a dog, or a human for that matter, just for the fun of it.

37.) Do you have plans for your future? Yes. Not realistic ones, but I have them nonetheless.
